The 120 acre vineyard is planted to Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Mataro, Petit Verdot, Durif, Viognier, Tempranillo and Zinfandel. Vines vary in age with the oldest remaining vineyard dating back to 1875 and an overall average vine age of about 50 years.

Angaston is a town on the eastern side of the Barossa Valley in South Australia, Angaston was originally known as German Pass, but was later renamed after the politician, banker and pastoralist George Fife Angas, who settled in the area in the 1850s. Penfolds Barossa Valley Cellar Door was built in 1911, and this site became the focal point of Penfolds winemaking in the 1970s as more fruit was sourced from the Barossa Valley and its surrounds.
