Excerpt: “Last Minute Christmas Getaway Ideas”

As we roll towards the line, “merry” last-minute gift ideas includes a Barossa Getaway.

So French, so chic – in the heart of the Barossa

Located in the town of Rowland Flat in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, the recently opened Le Mas guesthouse is inspired by the old stone houses and contemporary Provençal style of southern France. Former fashion event organisers Llewelyn and Geraldine Frater-Wyeth have renovated the property’s original 1857 farmhouse, which sits among native ghost gums and some of the nation’s oldest Grenache vines.

The accommodation comprises four guest rooms, each individually designed by Cristine Robbins of Room Service Interior Design in classic French hues, with heated travertine floors, 18th-century furnishings, chandeliers, stone baths and Hèrmes toiletries.

“We look forward to introducing guests to our intimate dining room, L’Orangerie, which offers a classic French and very seasonal menu,” says Geraldine of the petite hotel, which began welcoming guests in September. The wine list features current release and museum wines from Barossa Valley wineries, as well as iconic varieties from France.

When you’re done with cellar-door tastings, you can retire to Le Mas’ Napoleon Library, or relax in the outdoor heated mineral pool.
